Abstract

Using interpretive anthropology, this study investigates dance studio management practices in Surabaya, Indonesia. Faced with numerous problems that dance studios in this area confront to maintain their sustainability and growth, the research seeks to uncover successful tactics utilized by the studios and assess the management model. Furthermore, an ethnographic qualitative approach is used, focusing on eight dance studios chosen by Surabaya's local administration. Additionally, data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders such as the owner, manager, instructor, and collaborator. Aside from that, they collected data through show observation and studio operations. Thi sstudy, which uses Dynamic Capability Theory (DCT) as an analysis framework, investigates how such studios detect possibilities, adjust to external change, andreconfigure their internal sources to compete. Furthermore, the studies revealed that the studios blend current management methods with cultural preservation, boost dynamic capability, and foster international networking, all of which canlead to increased sustainability. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the necessity of cultural adaptability in maintaining relevance in dance studio communities. As a result, the next study should broaden the scope by comparing dance studios in avariety of settings and determining the impact of digital technology on management methods. Furthermore, in terms of leadership style and government assistance, the following research might provide valuable insights into the viability of cultural institutions.
