Abstract

Wahyu Poernomo: Doctoral Program in Management Science Postgraduate Faculty of Economics, Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi Indonesia (STIESIA) Surabaya, 2019. ” Corporate Culture Mediates the Effect of Human Resource Management Practices on Firm Performance (Study of Subsidiaries and Affiliates of PT Semen Indonesia Group)”. Promotor: Prof. Dr. Budiyanto, MS. Dan Dr. Suhermin, SE., MM. This study examined the roles of organizational culture involving clan, adhocracy, market, and hierarchy in mediating the effect of human resource management practices on company performance. Referring to the literature, this study developed a structural model of the observed variables that were tested using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the help of SmartPLS version 2.0 software. Data were collected using a survey method, by distributing questionnaires to 166 employees on two important positions: the directors and the echelon 1 in subsidiaries and affiliates of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. Group. They were taken proportionally with total sampling method. As the results, This study indicated that the practice of human resource management of PT Semen Indonesia Group had a positive impact of the company performance in PT Semen Indonesia Group. However, this positive effect was not significant. Among four types of observed culture, e.g : clan, adhocracy, market, and hierarchy, this study conveyed that the hierarchical culture played a role in mediating the effect of human resource management practices on company performance. In other words, the hierarchical culture was considered as a crucial factor that mediated the influence of human resource management practices on company performance. In summary, the Findings of the study provide important implications for the theory and practice of human resource management and company performance.
