PERAN BADAN USAHA MILIK DESA UNTUK PENINGKATAN KESEJAHTERAAN MASYARAKAT

This study aimed to observe and analyze the role of Village Owned Enterprises
(BUM Desa) in improving community welfare in Sukorejo Village, Sidayu District,
Gresik Regency. This study applied qualitative research with a case study approach.
Data were collected through observation, interviews, documents, audio, and visual.
While the data analysis applied Creswell (2014). The informants were the village head,
founder of BUM Desa, administrators, and village community.
This study indicated that Village Owned Enterprises (BUM Desa) played a role
in improving the welfare of Sukorejo Village, Sidayu District, Gresik Regency.
BUM Desa involved three roles. First, BUM Desa had a role to develop material welfare
through fulfilling the community's needs by trading unit as a supplier of LPG for traders
or retailers in the village, accommodating and marketing community products and
supplies of fertilizer for farmers. The market units served the community in meeting
basic needs. Second, BUM Desa improved spiritual welfare to provide opportunities for
self-development and to facilitate (a) the savings and loan unit with types of savings
products in the form of general savings, children's savings, education savings, urban
savings and time deposits; (b) public service units to the public in selling mobile phone
credit, electricity payment services for homes, educational institutions and businesses,
interbank transfer facilities, and BPJS payments, and (c) the waste processing unit for
community services in fulfilling a clean, comfortable and structured village
environment. Third, BUM Desa improved social welfare through handling social
problems in the community. The Social Program of BUM Desa assisted residents of
Sukorejo community. The program provides incentive assistance for non-PNS teachers,
tuition assistance for orphans and underprivileged children, school supplies for orphans,
essential food assistance for the poor, and free takjil during the fasting month, and giving
Eid parcels for orphans.
